“And so we’re told this is the golden age. But gold is not the reason for the wars we wage.”
…instead, wars are being waged on civil liberties, on diversity, on otherness, and on international trade among so many others.
But trump is telling the truth, at least he thinks he is.
Think of that cloud formation you swore looked like Gene Simmons. You probably had plenty of detractors –“that’s not Gene Simmons, it’s Fred Flintstone”. No no, it’s Gene Simmons, and for you that was the truth. Period. How can anyone say you’re wrong? The golden age that trump referred to is a cloud – this will be a golden age, but golden for who? So you see, it’s not lying if it’s true to somebody. I’m quite sure that it won’t be a golden age for me, or anyone like me. That shouldn’t suggest that I won’t welcome the golden age if it appears in front of me. The golden age he likely has in mind is pejorative and antagonistic to my and many other Americans’ conception of a golden age.
That said, I plan to use this space to measure my progress and describe my interpretation of the clouds in this reality I’m presented with on a daily basis.
Is gas cheaper?
How much for a dozen eggs?
Will I ever be able to buy a house? Will I ever be able to retire?
How do I, a reasonably well-informed and outspoken critic of conservative ideology, process and synthesize the pending “Golden Age”?
Perhaps I can best transmit my intentions here by conjuring Shakespeare who said “all that glitters is not gold.”
